Shalane began her work with children and families in 2008, upon her graduation from University of Central Florida. She began the journey with Boys Town's Primary Project Program, then advancing to their In-Home Family Services Program. The ability to work children in school and at home, brought services full circle for the students, parents, and school staff.

Later in her career Shalane continued the work with children and families with Children's Home Society. As a Child Development Specialist Shalane was able to support parents with children 0-5. She informed them about services to support their child's developmental needs. In addition to hosting engaging classes that focus on early education for little ones.

As a System's Navigator she continued to connect with programs and agencies in the community in order to educate families about services available to them. CHS then partnered with the New Worlds Reading Program. She joined this venture as a Partnership Associate, and continued to connect with schools, libraries, programs and agencies in the community to host Literacy Workshops for families with children in VPK-5th grade. Shalane enjoys working with those in her community. Supporting families in need and connecting them to resources in their community.
