Prime Time Palm Beach County presents
Shake, “Rally” and Roll for Afterschool
Prime Time Palm Beach County celebrated the annual Lights On
Afterschool event with an awareness rally coined Shake,
“Rally” and Roll for Afterschool. The event was held the
morning of October 22, 2009, on the open air plaza of the West Palm
Beach City Hall. In addition to sponsorship provided by the Florida
Afterschool Network, we received support from Kiwanis International,
Youth Speak Out International, Palm Beach Roadrunners and HUMANA for
our Lights on Afterschool celebration. Our planning partners
included representatives from Children’s Services Council of Palm
Beach County, Devos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach, Palm Beach
County Criminal Justice Commission, Palm Beach County Parks and
Recreation Department, School District of Palm Beach County and
Youth Speak Out International. We received official proclamations
declaring October 22, 2009 as Lights On Afterschool Day by
the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, the City of
West Palm Beach and the School District of Palm Beach County.
With a goal of attracting 150 attendees to our Shake, “Rally” and
Roll for Afterschool, it was estimated that there were easily
more than 200 individuals in attendance. They included afterschool
practitioners, parents, youth, educators, government
representatives, funders, and community members, all demonstrating
their support for quality afterschool programs.
