Afterschool Programs Celebrated at the 2008 Discover Afterschool Fun
Fair
Approximately 1,000 children, youth and their working
families attended the 2008 Discover Afterschool Family Fun Fair,
presented by Prime Time Palm Beach County, in partnership with the
School District of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach County Parks and
Recreation, DeVos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach, Center for
Creative Education, New Hope Charities, The Glades Initiative,
Abundant Life Fellowship, JFK Beacon Center, and Palm Beach
Community College, on Sunday, October 12, 2008. The event was a
countywide celebration of Lights on Afterschool, a national
awareness initiative of the Afterschool Alliance, a Washington,
D.C.-based national advocacy organization. Held at the DeVos-Blum
Family YMCA in Boynton Beach, Florida, attendees actively
participated in a wide array of enrichment activities provided by
Prime Time’s enhancement partners as well as area afterschool
providers. Group performances of afterschool participants
entertained the crowd throughout the day and parents and children
alike voiced their feelings about the value of afterschool programs
to local and state legislators through a unique advocacy banner
activity.
The event was generously sponsored by the Florida
Department of Health, Sal Senzatimore Jr. M.D., J.A.Y. Outreach
Ministries, Team Albertsons, Palm Beach Road Runners, The Capital
Grille, McDonald’s, Youth Speak Out International, Florida
Afterschool Network, Kohl’s, Kiwanis Club of Riviera Beach, Cheney
Brothers, and Home Depot.
